Many seniors aren’t aware of the advantages of strength training and often believe that simply walking is enough to stay fit. While I’m not suggesting that you absolutely must start strength training, I want to share some of the benefits you could enjoy if you dedicated just 30 minutes, four times a week, to strength training. Here’s a list of 32 things you might find easier or more enjoyable:
1. Reach items on the top shelf.
2. Reach items on the bottom shelf.
3. Play tag with your grandkids.
4. Do a somersault.
5. Climb stairs effortlessly.
6. Go hiking with your daughter.
7. Push your grandkids on the swing.
8. Help your son move.
9. Indulge in birthday cake without guilt.
10. Play catch with your grandkids.
11. Teach your grandkids how to do a cartwheel.
12. Defend yourself if needed.
13. Improve your golf swing.
14. Spend more time in your garden.
15. Practice yoga.
16. Sleep better.
17. Toss your baby grandson in the air.
18. Dance Gangnam-style.
19. Regain your independence and worry less about doing things on your own.
20. Impress your son-in-law by reeling in the biggest fish of the day.
21. Playfully intimidate your son-in-law if he gets out of line.
22. Help chase after your granddaughter’s escaped pet hamster.
